Albany Park
A neighborhood in Chicago
Albany Park, developed in 1893, is one of Chicago's most diverse neighborhoods, and its live-music footprint is modest but grounded in two long-running spots on W. Montrose Ave. Montrose Saloon, established in 1976, sits at 2933 W. Montrose Ave. This long-standing bar centers itself around a compact stage and an open, unpolished floor, where local bands, touring acts, and regulars all feed into the same gritty, immersive rhythm. Bookings run toward rock, alternative, and folk, but the saloon will take on all sorts of shows. It also stands out for its bluegrass music and, per patron notes, the occasional Irish session. The beer garden comes with horseshoe pits and a gas grill, and the saloon books live music every Wednesday. A few doors down, Angelo's Wine Bar was originally an Italian pizzeria founded by Jimmy Angelo in 1962, sold to Manny Fakhoury in 1983, and eventually transformed into a sophisticated sit-down restaurant by Manny's nephew Ramez Fakhoury. In addition to its pizzas, the menu features Neapolitan pasta, shared plates, a robust wine selection, and house-made vermouth. Live jazz is played Wednesday and Saturday nights. Together the two venues give the neighborhood a clear split: a wine-bar jazz room and a no-frills saloon with near-nightly bookings.
