A neighborhood in Chicago
Lincoln Square's music scene has been shaped significantly by the Old Town School of Folk Music, which moved here in 1988. A free Summer Concert Series runs Thursday evenings at Giddings Plaza from June through mid-August, and the Square Roots festival brings live music to Lincoln Avenue each year. The Old Town School of Folk Music is the largest nonprofit community arts school in the U.S., teaching diverse folk music traditions since 1957. The school operates two facilities in Lincoln Square that include a 425-seat and a 150-seat concert hall. Well-known folk, world, bluegrass, jazz, blues, and country musicians from around the world perform at its 4544 North Lincoln Avenue location. Concerts spotlight local and touring artists in an acoustically strong hall, with ticket prices among the most affordable in the city, and programs like World Music Wednesdays offer free and low-cost entry. The Atlantic Bar & Grill carries the feel of an Irish pub on Lincoln Avenue. It offers live music on a regular basis, including a Tuesday night blues jam, and typically has live acts on weekends, with a back area for sitting during performances.
