In Jeffrey Manor, on the South Side, blues is genuinely alive. East Odyssey Lounge, at 99th and Torrence Avenue, draws a packed house on Sunday nights for down-home blues and soulful singing. The venue also features live blues, soul, and R&B bands on Fridays. There is no cover charge for any of the live music. The intimate room carries the feel of a true urban juke joint, with performances that pay tribute to artists like Johnnie Taylor and Bobby Bland. A dedicated VIP section honors the late soul legend Otis Clay. Owner Howard Smith purchased the venue from legendary blues singer Koko Taylor's husband in 2011. Joe Pratt and the Source One Band anchor the Sunday-night sets on keys, drums, bass, and guitar. The room has a small dance floor and fills up fast on weekends, so arriving early is the move.
