A neighborhood in Chicago
The Near West Side's live-music footprint is defined entirely by large-arena shows. United Center, which opened in 1994, is Chicago's largest indoor arena and serves as home to the Bulls and Blackhawks while hosting major touring concerts year-round. With a capacity of around 23,000 for music shows, it has welcomed acts like Drake, Katy Perry, and Peso Pluma, and Aerosmith, Barbra Streisand, and Kanye West. Upcoming dates for 2026-2027 alone number 43 concerts. A few blocks away, Credit Union 1 Arena sits on the northwestern corner of the University of Illinois at Chicago's East campus and holds up to 10,000. It books hip-hop, rock, and contemporary acts across genres, with past headliners including The Cure, Sam Smith, Tame Impala, Zedd, Tyler the Creator, and A$AP Rocky. There are no small clubs or bars with live music in this pocket of the city; the neighborhood's music life runs entirely on the arena-show calendar.
