River West
A neighborhood in Chicago
River West is a small neighborhood on Chicago's Near Northwest Side, wedged between River North, the West Loop, and Wicker Park. Its bar scene is low-key relative to those neighbors, with nightlife concentrated around the six-corner intersection of Milwaukee, Halsted, and Grand Avenue. The Pearl Club, at 495 N Milwaukee Ave, is an elegant cocktail lounge at that Milwaukee-Halsted-Grand intersection. Co-founder Rob Katz of Boka Restaurant Group and business partner Matt Ruder transformed the space that once housed Emmit's Irish Pub into a cocktail lounge. Velvet couches, floor-to-ceiling curtains, and a large golden sign set a Roaring Twenties mood, though the soundtrack runs to electronic music rather than live performers. The venue does host ticketed events, including burlesque nights, but it is not a dedicated live-music room with a regular booking calendar.
