Oak Park
A suburb in the Chicago area
Oak Park is the birthplace of Ernest Hemingway, and that literary history shadows even its live-music spots. Downtown Oak Park runs a Jazz Thaw each winter, with free live jazz spread across establishments throughout the district. Hemmingway's Bistro, at 211 N. Oak Park Ave., is a small, elegant bistro inside The Write Inn, featuring a Sunday brunch buffet with a glass of champagne and live jazz, alongside classic French fare and an extensive wine list. Live jazz on Wednesdays and a candlelit atmosphere make it a regular draw for date nights and celebrations. Maya Del Sol, a family-owned Latin spot open since 2007, books live music on Thursday evenings in its bar area. Returning acts include Carpacho, a local group specializing in salsa and cumbia. Yoko Noge's Jazz Me Blues Band has also appeared on the Thursday schedule. Friday nights are often live as well. The Little Gem Cafe hosts live music with a jazzy character, pairing performances with its dining room for a low-key night out in Oak Park.
