Peninsula
G.A.R. Hall, owned and operated by the Peninsula Foundation, a non-profit, is Peninsula's central live-music anchor. The all-wood structure was built as a one-room schoolhouse in 1851, and after students moved out in the 1880s, it became a meeting hall for Civil War veterans of the Grand Army of the Republic. By the 1960s it was slated to be burned down as part of firefighter training, but was saved and restored. The hall is home to the Voices in the Valley music program, which celebrates roots music from local, national, and international touring artists. Folk, blues, bluegrass, jazz, and roots rock acts play weekly, sometimes more often. The venue is a bar with a capacity of 140. Its all-wood construction gives it exceptional acoustics. Northeast Ohio artists share the stage with national acts, and recent bookings include Charlie Parr, Darrell Scott, and East Nash Grass. On the first Friday of June, July, and August, the village hosts Peninsula Live, a festival-style outdoor event featuring live bands and food trucks.
