Prairie Meadows began operations as a nonprofit in 1989 and is Altoona's dominant live-music anchor. Every Tuesday, Friday, and Saturday, the Finish Line Show Lounge hosts local musicians and national tribute bands, and admission to those shows is free. The property is also known for thoroughbred and quarter-horse racing, with its live racing season running from May through late September. Music at the Finish Line spans rock, country, pop, and classic hits. Brick & Ivy Rooftop, the suburb's other music venue, opened in 2020 as a sports bar with an indoor-outdoor rooftop layout. Live music is a regular draw, typically on Friday nights, with a raised indoor stage giving performers room to work. The booking leans toward acoustic and alternative acts, though the venue has also hosted performers across a wider range of styles. Together, the two venues give Altoona a consistent weekly calendar of live music anchored by a casino lounge and a rooftop bar.
