Birmingham is an upscale Oakland County city where live music is anchored in restaurants and lounges rather than dedicated concert halls. The two main indoor spots share an address: 220 Merrill and the Rose Room occupy the historic Detroit Edison building, with 220 Merrill known for contemporary American cuisine with European touches, wood-fired grill specialties, and an extensive wine list. During summer, guests can enjoy patio dining with live music on featured days, including Sunday brunch. Downstairs, the Rose Room at 220 sits in the lower level of the same building, with a central stage featuring a cherry-red grand piano, hosting live piano shows and DJ sets. DJs spin everything from classics to modern hits, including Arabic, Indian, Afro, and Latin house beats. The Rose Room runs Friday and Saturday nights, 9 pm to 2 am. Across town, Shift is an intimate, low-key lounge with live music most nights. The city also runs a free outdoor series: the In the Park Summer Concert Series holds Wednesday evening shows at Shain Park, with a rotating lineup of local and regional acts across rock, soul, and country.
