Bricktown

A neighborhood in Detroit

Bricktown sits at the center of Downtown Detroit, and its live-music offering spans two very different scales. Constructed in 1907, Saint Andrew's Hall and The Shelter are historic concert venues known for legendary shows and moments in music. Since 1980, Saint Andrew's Hall has brought trend-setting music to Detroit; the ballroom holds 1,000 people and is favored for its acoustics and sight lines. When alternative music was still truly alternative, the stage here hosted the Red Hot Chili Peppers as early as 1984, and later Soundgarden, Smashing Pumpkins, Nine Inch Nails, Nirvana, Pearl Jam, and Green Day. The Shelter lies underneath Saint Andrew's Hall, hosting live acts and DJs, and is known as one of the first stages on which Eminem performed. Both venues continue to draw national touring acts today. On the club side, M!X and SANDBOX Outdoor Lounge operate as a connected indoor/outdoor complex centrally located between the Renaissance Center and Greektown. M!X is known for R&B and hip-hop nights and an open entertainment schedule that ranges from karaoke to dance nights. The bar and grill features three outdoor patios including a tented area and dance floor, kept moving by resident DJs. SANDBOX is the outdoor counterpart, with its own DJ and karaoke programming on Sundays.
