A neighborhood in Detroit
The Aretha Franklin Amphitheatre sits along the shore of the Detroit River and carries the name of Detroit's own music icon, having been rebranded in 2019 from its former name, Chene Park Amphitheatre. The outdoor, 6,000-person waterfront venue is recognized as one of the top 100 concert venues in the world and draws major recording artists from around the globe. It serves as the centerpiece of live entertainment for metropolitan Detroit each summer. Each season, the amphitheatre announces a summer concert series mixing national touring artists, special music series, and more. Programming spans a wide range of genres, with artists like Boney James, Maysa, and Jeff Bradshaw on the schedule, following past appearances from acts such as Plies, Da Brat, and Twista. Outside of the amphitheatre, the East Riverfront is primarily a park-and-promenade corridor rather than a nightlife district, so the Aretha is the neighborhood's sole and defining live-music anchor.
