Brush Park
A neighborhood in Detroit
Brush Park is a historic Detroit neighborhood known for its Victorian-era mansions, and its music roots go back further than most visitors realize. The Carlton Plaza Hotel, once located here, was one of the only hotels in Detroit where African Americans could attend live jazz performances. Today, live music in Brush Park centers on Eat at Bert's Music Cafe, located at 2458 Brush St. Live jazz fills the space with a lively, entertaining vibe that draws a dance crowd, while the walls display Motown memorabilia and local art. Jazz performances run every Friday night until 3 a.m., with no cover charge required. The venue also hosts a dedicated weekly series: Bert's Music Cafe and The Preservation of Jazz presents "Jazz on Repeat," a Thursday night jazz series hosted by Lucretia Sain, running 6 to 10 p.m. Bert's is part of a larger family-owned entertainment complex, and the brand has been a pillar in Detroit for over 30 years, combining live music with its dining and warehouse theatre setting.
