Brightmoor
A neighborhood in Detroit
Brightmoor sits in the northwest corner of Detroit, bordered by Puritan Avenue to the north, the CSX railway to the south, and Evergreen Road to the east. Created in the early 1920s as planned housing for Southern migrants, the neighborhood shifted over decades from a working-class community to one that has been working its way back through private-sector and nonprofit efforts. Its live-music footprint is slim: Friends Cocktail Lounge, on West 8 Mile Road, runs Tuesday through Saturday from 5 PM to 2 AM. The family-owned establishment has a stylish interior suited to casual gatherings and lively events. Entertainment leans toward karaoke nights and game-day festivities alongside music, with live music performances woven into a broader calendar of themed nights and community gatherings. The lounge markets itself as "8 Mile's Best Kept Secret", a spot to drink and socialize with adults. For Brightmoor residents, it is the neighborhood's one reliable nightlife anchor.
