Grandmont Rosedale

Grandmont Rosedale is a historic district in northwest Detroit spanning five neighborhoods: Rosedale Park, North Rosedale, Grandmont 1, Grandmont, and Minock Park. Its live-music options have historically been thin, but that changed with the arrival of Miss Eva's Detroit. Located at 19566 Grand River Ave., Miss Eva's Detroit has a Harlem Renaissance, speakeasy-style setup, complete with a low-key entrance in the back of the building. Owner Jay Williams created the venue to honor his grandmother, Mrs. Eva Franklin, and bring intimate stages for music and community gathering to Detroit neighborhoods. Music director Mike Monford has drawn a comparison to the Detroit tradition of jazz musicians playing corner bars, citing names like Donald Byrd as part of that legacy. The speakeasy has hosted Detroit entertainers including Brandon Williams, Thornetta Davis, and jessica Care moore. The venue books jazz, and most shows take place on Friday and Saturday nights. No food is served inside, but a food truck is typically on site. On live-music nights there is a cover charge, and the room fills quickly.
