New Baltimore

A city in the Detroit area

New Baltimore sits on Anchor Bay along Lake St. Clair, about 30 miles northeast of Detroit, and its live-music identity revolves almost entirely around one anchor: Diesel Lounge & Concert Theatre. The venue opened in 2013, founded by Joe Sgroi alongside Mike Mitchell, guitarist for Critical Bill and former owner of the Emerald Theatre and Hayloft Rock Club. The building previously served as a movie theater, operating as Premier Theaters and Chesterfield Cinema before its conversion. It now runs two separate rooms: the Diesel Concert Lounge, with a capacity of 500, and the Diesel Concert Theatre, which holds 800. The calendar leans toward rock, pop, metal, and hardcore, with shows running seven days a week. Past performers include Hurt, HED PE, Twiztid, Kip Winger, Faster Pussycat, Obie Trice, Tantric, and others. Beyond Diesel, New Baltimore adds outdoor programming in warmer months: the Anchor Bay Country Fest takes place on the downtown waterfront each fall, and a Wednesday-night Midweek Music Concert Series runs through the summer, presented by the New Baltimore Business Alliance.
