Midtown Indianapolis sits between White River and Fall Creek, serving as a corridor between downtown and the north side of the city. Its live-music footprint is anchored by a single, large-scale destination: the Indiana State Fairgrounds & Event Center on E 38th Street. The Fairgrounds first opened in 1892 and became a year-round events center in 1990. Spread across 250 acres, it holds more than 1,000,000 square feet of event space. Concerts happen across two main stages. The Hoosier Lottery Grandstand is one of Indiana's most historic outdoor entertainment venues, having hosted concerts, motorsports, and special events year-round. During the annual State Fair, the Hoosier Lottery Free Stage offers concerts included with fair admission. The venue programs a wide range of genres, with past acts including country artists like Lonestar. Live music here is part of a much larger event calendar. The Event Center hosts outdoor festivals, live music, and seasonal events throughout the year. For dedicated, small-room music, Midtown residents look elsewhere in Indianapolis.
