Meridian-Kessler

A neighborhood in Indianapolis

Meridian-Kessler is a primarily residential neighborhood about four miles north of downtown Indianapolis, with a walkable stretch along College Avenue that includes bars and restaurants with live music nearby. The neighborhood's one dedicated music venue is the Indy Folk Series, which has operated since 2001 out of the performance space at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Indianapolis on West 43rd Street. The Indy Folk Series is described as the premier listening-room venue for acoustic music in Indianapolis, covering Americana, roots, bluegrass, singer-songwriters, Celtic, jazz, and swing, and features local, regional, and national acts September through May. Concerts run once a month on Saturday evenings, with the option to attend in person or via livestream. The all-ages room is known for superb acoustics, art on the walls, and candles on the tables. The series is organized and operated entirely by volunteers. For broader live music, the nearby Jazz Kitchen has been voted one of the top 100 jazz clubs in the world, offering live jazz each evening alongside a weekly Latin Dance Party.
