Leeds
Farewell sits in Leeds' industrial district, a neighborhood still marked by the footprint of a former General Motors assembly plant that operated here from 1929 to 1988. Its live-music identity today is built almost entirely around two DIY operations that share a block on Stadium Drive. Farewell operates as a DIY punk club, bar, and coffee shop hybrid. It books alternative, hardcore, hip-hop, indie, metal, punk, and rock, and shows can be held any night of the week. The room is all-ages and LGBTQ+ friendly. A few doors down, Howdy runs as a thrift store by day; at night the space becomes an all-ages DIY venue hosting musicians from across the country and occasionally from abroad. The two venues are sister operations. Together they make Leeds one of the more unlikely live-music pockets in Kansas City, punching well above what its industrial surroundings might suggest.
