Overland Park

Overland Park's dominant live-music anchor is the Midwest Trust Center on the Johnson County Community College campus, presenting over 170 events per year. Its 1,400-seat Yardley Hall and the semi-circular, 400-seat Polsky Theatre cover everything from classical concerts to more intimate performances. Programming runs from Broadway to classical, with music of many genres represented across both halls. On the bar-and-dance-hall end, Guitars and Cadillacs is regarded as Kansas City's original country music venue, and also offers free dance lessons Wednesdays through Fridays. Country Jam Night on the first Sunday of each month invites singers and musicians to perform in a room that has hosted Garth Brooks, Toby Keith, and Alan Jackson early in their careers. The New Theatre & Restaurant pairs live performances with a chef-prepared dinner. The city also runs an outdoor summer series: Music in the Park takes place on select Thursday evenings at Thompson Park and is free and family-friendly, drawing local bands. Beyond these anchors, Overland Park holds additional spots for live music ranging from neighborhood bars to a nightclub, giving the suburban city a wider range of options than its reputation might suggest.
