West Bottoms
The West Bottoms once housed the Kansas City Livestock Exchange and Stockyards; its brick early-1900s industrial buildings have since been converted into galleries, restaurants, shops, and apartments. That same repurposed-warehouse character runs through the live-music side of the neighborhood. The Ship, a neighborhood restaurant, cocktail bar, and live music venue open since 2014, serves up cocktails and local live music out of an original restored 1935 historic lounge on one side and the larger "All Else The Sea" room on the other, offering comfortable seating with good sight lines to the stage and room for dancing. Live music runs on one or both stages almost every night. The Ship is known for jazz and soul performances on a regular basis. Lemonade Park is a relaxed outdoor entertainment venue featuring live local music, with an ever-changing lineup of shows. Club Casablanca operates as a dance club running DJ nights in reggae, R&B, and hip-hop, as well as occasional live Latin acts. The American Royal Center has hosted acts including Los Tucanes de Tijuana and Tierra Cali, with Hale Arena and expansive expo halls giving promoters flexibility for large-scale events. The Rock Island Bridge, a renovated railroad bridge, is slated to become a new entertainment district featuring restaurants, bars, and live music.
