Downtown
Downtown Kansas City holds some of the metro's most historically significant performance spaces alongside small jazz rooms that run nearly every night of the week. The Folly Theater, Kansas City's oldest theater and listed on the National Register of Historic Places, anchors the neighborhood at 12th and Central. It runs the city's longest-running Jazz Series and also produces an Americana series with performances ranging from blues to rock and country, alongside classical programming through the Harriman-Jewell and Friends of Chamber Music series. A block south, the Kansas City Music Hall, a streamline modern Art Deco theater seating 2,363, presents touring Broadway shows, visiting symphony orchestras, opera, and ballet companies. It also houses the 1927 Robert-Morton Theatre Pipe Organ, originally from the Midland Theatre. For smaller, late-night music, The Phoenix, one of KC's oldest jazz and blues clubs, books live music six days a week. Sunday jazz brunch there pairs live performance with food and draws some of the city's most popular musicians. Lonnie's Reno Club, named for KC legend Lonnie McFadden, is an old-school, basement-level room at 1111 Grand Blvd.
