Zanzabar has been a Germantown staple since 1938. It pairs live music with a retro arcade, frequently hosting local and touring bands. Bands come from near and far, nationally and internationally, to its award-winning live-music stage. 21st in Germantown, one of Louisville's oldest continuously operating taverns, traces its roots back to 1887 as Zeigler's Saloon and Grocery. Its attached Barrel Room is a 3,000 sq. ft. renovated space hosting live music from local and national acts, comedy shows, trivia, and karaoke. The venue programs open mic nights, DJs, and original live music spanning jazz, blues, hip-hop, reggae, and house. Kaiju opened on the site of the former Lisa's Oak Street Lounge, with owner Toki Masubuchi of Dragon King's Daughter behind it. The venue space is separated from the bar by a short hallway to keep the music contained. It features over 70 draft and bottled craft beers, wines, and specialty cocktails alongside its music programming. The neighborhood itself anchors an annual outdoor event: the Kentuckiana Blues Society and Check's Cafe host the Germantown Schnitzelburg Blues Festival each summer at the corner of Burnett Ave and Hickory Street.
