Greentree
A neighborhood in Madison
Greentree is a quiet, residential neighborhood on Madison's west side, conveniently located near the beltline. Its one dedicated music venue is a singular one: Farley's House of Pianos, at 6522 Seybold Rd, a store devoted exclusively to pianos that also functions as an intimate concert hall. Established in 1962, the business started as Farley's House of Music, and as the shop became a popular stop for professional musicians passing through town, Farley's began holding salon concerts to celebrate the completion of rebuilt grands. That tradition grew into the Salon Piano Series: Farley's is the primary venue for the Series, which started in the late 1970s and has included classical pianists Peter Serkin, Paul Badura-Skoda, Alessio Bax, and Valentina Lisitsa, as well as jazz pianists Dick Hyman, Dave McKenna, and Eddie Higgins. Concerts are performed on heirloom pianos restored in Farley's own workshop, and only 100 tickets are available per performance. Farley's teaching studio also offers lessons in piano, strings, jazz improv, and music theory.
