Broad Avenue Arts District

Broad Avenue runs between Sam Cooper Boulevard and Summer Avenue in Midtown, and its arts district has developed a small but distinct live-music identity to go alongside its galleries and locally owned shops. Two venues anchor that music presence. The Cove, at 2559 Broad, is a low-lit, pirate-themed bar known for jazz sessions on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Sundays, and also hosts local bands, DJ nights, and karaoke. Live music runs Thursday through Sunday, with Thursdays reserved for a regular jazz act and Sundays for a jazz jam. Every Sunday at 6 PM, local Memphis jazz musicians play the truly tiny room, and many are students at the University of Memphis or Rhodes College. The Cove is a 21-and-over room with a capacity ranging from 80 to 180. Havenhaus, at 2487 Broad Ave, is a hardcore, punk, and metal venue that books all genres and operates with a DIY ethic. It grew out of founder and musician J Opp's home, which he opened as a space for musicians after many of Memphis's smaller venues closed during the pandemic. Regular programming includes Turn Down Tuesdays, a pay-what-you-can DJ night covering lo-fi hip-hop, phonk, wave, ambient, and R&B.
