Cooper-Young is home to several of Memphis' best-known spots to catch live music year-round. The neighborhood offers almost-nightly entertainment from live musical artists and DJs. Goner Records, the local punk and indie label, anchors the area's underground streak, and Gonerfest typically kicks off each September with a pop-up concert at the Cooper-Young Gazebo. Bar DKDC is the most dependable spot for catching live music in the Cooper-Young area, with local bands performing several nights a week, usually at 10 p.m. or later, with a minimal cover charge. Opened in 2013 by chef Karen Carrier, it pairs an adventurous food menu and specialty cocktails with live music and DJ sets. Global street fare goes alongside house cocktails in a funky space known for DJ sets and live soul music. Bar DKDC books a wide range of genres, having hosted artists such as Vinyl Williams, Cyrena Wages, Whip Appeal, and Middle Class Fashion. Young Avenue Deli has been voted one of the top places in Memphis to hear live music, thanks to its expansive stage and large seating area. The 500-capacity room draws on an all-genres booking approach, with most shows falling Thursday through Saturday nights. Pool tables and a long beer list round out a neighborhood-bar feel that has kept it a local anchor for decades.
