Overton Square

Overton Square has been a go-to destination for entertainment and dining since the 1960s, and its live-music anchor is Lafayette's Music Room at 2119 Madison Ave. The original Lafayette's was short-lived but influential, rooted in the most happening corridor of Memphis during the 1970s. KISS, Billy Joel, Barry Manilow, Kansas, Big Star, and Styx all played before Memphis crowds during that first run. Some 40 years after going dark, the legendary Lafayette's Music Room returned to the heart of Overton Square. Today it books live bands seven nights a week, with jazz or blues during dinner hours and a later set featuring rock, bluegrass, or zydeco for the night crowd. Two live bands perform daily. Patrons enjoy two indoor/outdoor bars on dual patios overlooking Overton Square's nightlife, with Sunday brunch drawing locals for jazz sets from musicians like guitarist Joe Restivo. Lafayette's also regularly features local bands.
