Carrick

Carrick sits on the south side of Pittsburgh, less than 5 miles from downtown, and its live-music presence is small-scale and community-rooted. Brownsville Road runs through the neighborhood as its main thoroughfare and is the thread connecting most of what happens here musically. Emma Lazarus Art and Music hosts a weekly open mic and jam session on Friday evenings, open to all ages. The venue also runs a biweekly poetry series, making it a crossroads for both musicians and writers rather than a straight concert room. Beyond Emma Lazarus, the neighborhood offers scattered live music through other community spaces. Phillips Park puts on live jazz concerts in the summer, and the Carrick Community Pavilion, off Brownsville Road, hosts live music alongside farmers markets and food trucks. There is also a community effort underway to restore Carrick Classic Lanes, a neighborhood bowling center, into a dual bowling and live-music venue.
