Allentown
Allentown has found its niche as a goth and metal meeting place, with oddity shops, a themed cafe, and more curiosities along its business district. That character carries directly into its two live-music spots, both on Arlington Avenue. Bottlerocket Social Hall is a bar, performance space, classroom, and community hub. Built from the bones of an original Allentown bar, it keeps the vintage wood paneling and books a variety of bands weekly, with a particular focus on gothic, industrial, and dark alt acts. The room holds around 200. Recurring programming includes Needle Drop, a monthly event where local musicians cover famous albums from start to finish, and Liner Notes, a WYEP-partnered series that takes audiences through a historic musical journey with a house band. Grim Wizard Coffee, the former Black Forge Coffee House, carries on the same heavy jams and dark coffee. The shop serves heavy music, caffeinated alchemy, and pinball, and hosts live bands alongside goth club nights and other events. The ownership remains committed to the metal scene and continues making custom roasts for bands to sell at their merch tables at shows.
