University of Toledo
The University of Toledo campus is home to two distinct live-music venues that together cover a wide range of scale and repertoire. John F. Savage Arena is a multi-purpose arena on campus with a concert capacity of up to 8,300 following a 2008 renovation, and it hosts concerts alongside its role as home to Toledo Rockets athletics. Past performers have included Elvis Presley, Elton John, Pearl Jam, Smashing Pumpkins, Kenny Chesney, and Frank Sinatra, among many others. The University of Toledo Athletic Department has also run the Savage Live concert series out of the arena. On the more intimate end, the Center for Performing Arts is the primary performance building for UToledo's Departments of Music and Theatre and Film. Its Recital Hall seats 267 and suits individual recitals, chamber concerts, and smaller theatrical events. The endowed Dorothy Mackenzie Price Piano Series brings faculty and guest pianists to the Center, with events free to the public. The UToledo Department of Music also uses the space to present free guest concerts open to the community.
