Old West End
The Old West End is a historic Victorian neighborhood bordering the Toledo Museum of Art, and that proximity shapes its music life at both ends of the scale. Over Yonder Concert House grew from a friend playing a concert in founder Rob Krain's backyard and has since become an ongoing series of intimate shows mixing local musicians with national touring artists. The house focuses on folk, bluegrass, jazz, and country. Artists keep every dollar of admission, a practice Krain says makes Toledo a viable stop for traveling musicians. A few blocks away, the Peristyle Theatre is a neoclassical hall on the Toledo Museum of Art campus, known for resonant acoustics, and serves as the city's home for orchestral concerts and a stop for touring performers. Its calendar runs from classical and pops programs to film-with-orchestra events and comedy, across roughly 1,750 seats. Live Arts Toledo, which brings together the Toledo Symphony, Toledo Ballet, and Toledo Jazz Orchestra, counts the Peristyle as its primary performance hall. The two venues sit at opposite ends of scale but share the same historic blocks.
