Downtown St. Paul holds one of the densest concentrations of live-music venues in the metro, spanning everything from neighborhood bars to major concert halls. Amsterdam Bar & Hall is a staple of downtown St. Paul nightlife, offering nearly 15 years of live music of all kinds alongside one of the largest gin selections in the area. The dark music hall hosts local and national bands on two stages. Camp Bar and Cabaret, open since 2007, features a small performance stage with piano for music and comedy. The Cabaret side brings in professional acts from around the country, with productions managed by Actors Theater of Minnesota. The Palace Theatre, a restored vaudeville theater, has made a name as a large venue for touring bands. Roy Wilkins Auditorium, built in 1932 and named after a prominent civil rights activist, has hosted artists including The Grateful Dead, David Bowie, and Bob Dylan. The Fitzgerald Theater, The Ordway Center for the Performing Arts, and the Schubert Club round out the formal end of the spectrum. Rice Park runs a free outdoor summer concert series on select Thursdays, June through September.
