Virginia-Highland
Blind Willie's, on North Highland Avenue, has operated for 40 years and is celebrated as Atlanta's premier room for traditional, Chicago-style, and roots blues. The musician-owned venue presents local and touring blues acts within an intimate barroom setting, with cover charges typically running $5 to $10 depending on the night and performer. Named in honor of Georgia bluesman Blind Willie McTell, regular performers have included Sandra Hall and Francine Reed. Since 1992, Red Light Cafe has positioned itself as Atlanta's listening room, covering Americana, bluegrass, country and western, folk, blues, jazz, and roots rock. Each week the calendar includes Open Mic Wednesday and Bluegrass Thursday, which pairs an open jam at 6 p.m. with Americana sets at 8 p.m. The venue also serves as the city's center for bluegrass and Americana. Capacity sits at 150. Together, the two clubs give Virginia-Highland a consistent live-music anchor running from blues most nights of the week at Blind Willie's to an Americana and roots-focused calendar at Red Light Cafe.
