Illinois Wesleyan University's College of Fine Arts, established in 1948, includes a School of Music that anchors the neighborhood's live-music identity. Westbrook Auditorium in Presser Hall is the primary performance home of the IWU School of Music. The 500-seat hall hosts concerts and recitals across a full calendar of ensembles. Programming runs from choral and orchestral performances to the annual IWU Jazz Festival, with events at Westbrook featuring groups such as the Collegiate Choir, Wind Ensemble, and Symphony Orchestra. Most concerts are free with general seating. Across the street, Reverberation Vinyl sits directly across Main Street from the IWU campus, a vinyl specialty store carrying new and used LPs across a range of genres. The shop self-describes its focus as "Avant: Rock Psych: Folk Free: Jazz." Reverberation Vinyl also hosts live music, booking acts across a wide range of genres, with past performers including Yea Big, BCMC, and Emergency Group. Together, the two spots give the Illinois Wesleyan neighborhood a dual character: a formal concert hall driven by the university's music program, and a small record-store stage with a bias toward the non-mainstream.
