Goose Island is a former industrial strip along the North Branch Canal, and its live-music identity runs through two converted warehouse spaces on or near Elston Avenue. The Salt Shed is an indoor/outdoor venue; its outdoor "Fairgrounds" section along the Chicago River holds 5,500 people, while the indoor "Shed" holds 3,600. The building was once a Morton Salt facility, repurposed by a hospitality collective as a creative hub with music at its center. Acts booked since opening include Fleet Foxes, Japanese Breakfast, Run the Jewels, Death Cab for Cutie, King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard, and The Roots, with King Gizzard recording their live album *Live in Chicago '23* there across three nights in June 2023. Alongside the main stages, the Salt Shed campus includes an elevated cocktail bar and an arcade bar, and its calendar also takes in vintage markets and film festivals. Outset, opened in 2024, aims to pair large-scale production value with an intimate feel. It is run by Auris Presents, which also operates Concord Music Hall and RADIUS. Located on the edge of Lincoln Yards, the venue holds 750 people across 11,300 square feet, with a performance space anchored by an illuminated arch and a wrap-around second-floor balcony.
