Museum Campus

A neighborhood in Chicago

Museum Campus is a 57-acre park near Lake Michigan, anchored by the Adler Planetarium, Shedd Aquarium, and Field Museum of Natural History. It is not a conventional live-music neighborhood, but Shedd Aquarium drives a genuine seasonal music calendar. Jazzin' at the Shedd marks its 30th anniversary as a popular midweek summer series, bringing musicians from Chicago and beyond to perform as guests move through the aquarium. The series pairs live jazz with an evening open house format that includes food and drinks. Past lineups have included Chicago-area acts like Rio Bamba, whose sound blends bossa nova, samba, and Latin jazz, and the Soul Message Band, rooted in the Hammond B3 organ tradition. Beyond jazz, Shedd runs additional after-hours music events. The House Party series offers an adults-only night of dancing set against the aquarium's exhibits, in the city that built house music. Featured DJs have included Chicago native Lori Branch, a pioneer in the city's house scene and host of the Vintage House program on WNUR 89.3FM. Shedd has also introduced Ritmo del Mar, a Latin-focused night with salsa, cumbia, merengue, and Latin jazz performances.
