Palatine carries a credible live-music reputation for a northwest suburb, anchored mainly by Durty Nellie's. A neighborhood tavern since 1972, the current Smith Street location opened in 2003 and has since been called the top live music venue in the Chicago suburban area. It has hosted acts including Violent Femmes, Johnny Winter, Filter, and Local H, and has a rooftop bar with live music.
