Palatine carries a credible live-music reputation for a northwest suburb, anchored mainly by Durty Nellie's. A neighborhood tavern since 1972, the current Smith Street location opened in 2003 and has since been called the top live music venue in the Chicago suburban area. It has hosted acts including Violent Femmes, Johnny Winter, Filter, and Local H, and has a rooftop bar with live music. Madcats, open since 2021, is a community-focused restaurant and live music venue that programs events nearly every day of the week. Its weekly calendar runs live bands on Fridays and Saturdays and a Blues and Jazz Jam on Sundays. Donkey Inn is a neighborhood bar and grill that adds live music and trivia nights to its regular schedule. Fred P.
