Wilmette
A suburb in the Chicago area
Canal Shores is a non-profit golf course that receives no funding from Evanston or Wilmette. Its grounds on the Evanston-Wilmette border served as one of the main outdoor stages for Out of Space, a summer concert series produced by Evanston's SPACE venue. Running since 2017, the series began with a single show headlined by the Rebirth Brass Band, then expanded to multiple nights split between Canal Shores and other nearby locations. Acts including Big Boi, George Clinton, Mavis Staples, and the Indigo Girls made Out of Space a much-anticipated part of the area's summer calendar. Past Canal Shores lineups paired artists like Jenny Lewis, Trampled by Turtles, Elvis Costello, Lucinda Williams, Waxahatchee, and Buddy Guy across consecutive nights. In 2024, a major course renovation pushed the series to a Skokie location. Out of Space will not be returning in 2026. Beyond Canal Shores, Wilmette's live music is largely seasonal and park-based, anchored by the Wilmette Park District's Sounds of Summer series at outdoor spots like Wallace Bowl in Gillson Park.
