Bexley
Bexley's live-music life leans community-oriented and classical rather than bar-band driven. Mees Hall, on the Capital University campus just east of downtown Columbus, hosts concerts, theatre productions, and performances from the university's Conservatory of Music. The 900-seat auditorium is one of the Conservatory's main performance halls. It serves as Capital's largest performance space, hosting the Christmas Festival, Prism, and Big Band performances. The hall also draws outside ensembles, including Otterbein University's orchestra, which uses Mees Hall for its OtterCap Orchestra concerts. The NOW Festival at Capital University is a celebration of contemporary music spanning 20th- and 21st-century art music styles, progressive jazz, and popular music, with a mission to expose the Central Ohio community to living composers and their work. At the Bexley Public Library, singer-songwriter Parker MacDonell hosts a monthly concert series on the third Thursday of each month, drawing from local Columbus songwriters from seasoned performers to up-and-coming artists, with a featured musician performing before a closing set from MacDonell. The series is sponsored by Six String Concerts, which has been presenting touring singer-songwriters since 1988. The library also books one-off genre concerts, including klezmer and traditional Jewish music performances in its auditorium. Beyond these two venues, the city runs Jazz in the Park, an outdoor summer concert series at Havenwood Park featuring local music and food trucks.
