Drake

The Drake neighborhood, anchored by Drake University and informally known as Dogtown, is home to two music venues that serve different ends of the live-music spectrum. xBk Live, at 1159 24th Street, is a 250-capacity room dedicated to live experiences in a welcoming atmosphere. Its calendar spans nearly every genre, from metal to folk and electronic to indie. Monday Night Live, a free weekly series for local musicians, is a regular fixture, and in a single month the venue has been known to fold in improv jams and poetry open mics alongside local acts. It draws both touring acts and Iowa talent. Lutheran Church of Hope+Elim is a Des Moines campus formed in November 2020 by the merger of the former Hope Des Moines campus and Elim Christian Fellowship. The campus hosts events throughout the year, from Vacation Bible School to an MLK Jr. Day Celebration, and holds Christian music concerts as part of its community programming.
