Southwest Detroit

A neighborhood in Detroit

Southwest Detroit's music scene is rooted in the neighborhood's large Mexican-American community, and El Santuario Nightclub is one of its clearest expressions. El Santuario is at 2453 Campbell St in Southwest Detroit, open to adults 21 and older. The club runs Fridays and Saturdays from 8 PM to 2 AM. The music focus is regional Mexican and Latin: El Santuario has hosted acts including Los Originales De San Juan, Banda Los Costeños de Zirandaro Guerrero, Cumbre Norteña, and Adriel Favela. The venue has also held Fiestas Patrias celebrations and anniversary bailies with live groups. El Santuario's own description pitches it as a spot for new and first-time groups in Detroit. The club features a spacious dance floor across two levels. For context, Southwest Detroit also hosts El Club, a separately operated all-ages venue at 4114 W Vernor Hwy, named one of the 10 best live music venues in the country by Rolling Stone four years running, on the former site of the Mexicantown Fiesta Center.
