Woodbridge

A neighborhood in Detroit

Woodbridge is a residential Detroit neighborhood long favored by musicians and artists as a place to live and work. Its two live-music spots take different approaches. Woodbridge Pub, on Trumbull Street, anchors Sunday nights with free jazz running 8 PM to midnight, a show that fills fast enough that regulars advise arriving early. The format invites audience members with instruments or voices to sit in, turning the night into an open jam. The weekly calendar also includes karaoke on Thursdays and a monthly comedy open mic on the last Tuesday. Spread Art, on Rosa Parks Boulevard, operates as a community arts incubator with a 900-square-foot indoor performance space and a 9,000-square-foot outdoor garden stage that opens for warmer months. It programs multidisciplinary music, dance, and performance events, with a recurring "Sound Off Sundays" open mic every other week. Events are largely booked by Detroit-based artists and organizations through the venue's own submission form. Beyond the two venues, the neighborhood hosts the annual Woodbridge Porch Concert, a strolling outdoor series organized by Woodbridge Neighborhood Development.
