Castleton
Castleton sits on the northeast side of Indianapolis, bordered by Fishers, Lawrence, and Nora, and is anchored by the largest mall in Indiana, Castleton Square Mall. It is a commercial hub rather than a music district, and its live-music activity is largely concentrated at one spot. With over 40 years of history on Indy's northeast side, The Free Spirit is the neighborhood's main music venue. Located in Castleton, it offers live music every Friday and Saturday. The bar sits on the back side of Castleton Square Mall, across the street from Costco on East 86th Street. It is much larger than it looks from the outside, with many high-top tables and a large stage area to the right of the entrance. A dance floor rounds out the live-music setup. There is no cover charge, and the venue is 21 and over. Beyond weekend bands, weeknights feature karaoke and a DJ.
