Lawrence

A city in the Indianapolis area

Lawrence's live-music activity centers on the Fort Ben Cultural Campus, a converted former Fort Benjamin Harrison site run by Arts for Lawrence, the largest performing and visual arts nonprofit in Lawrence and the northeast quadrant of Indianapolis. The amphitheater, designed to echo the historic bus stops at Fort Harrison with a copper patina roof, exposed wooden posts and beams, and red brick bases, serves as the centerpiece for festivals and concerts. Arts for Lawrence runs "Fridays at the Fort," bringing live music, beer, and children's activities on Fridays from June through August. Programming also includes outdoor concert series tied to festivals, and many events are free to the public. The campus adds a permanent interactive dimension through the Musical Swings, designed by Daily Tous Les Jours of Montreal, which invite people of all ages and backgrounds to make music together. For ticketed indoor performances, Arts for Lawrence also stewards the historic Theater at the Fort, bringing drama, music, dance, and storytelling to that stage.
