Cottage Home

A neighborhood in Indianapolis

Cottage Home is a small historic neighborhood on Indianapolis's near Eastside, and its live-music life runs on two tracks: the Dorman Street Saloon and the neighborhood's own community events. The Dorman Street Saloon, known affectionately as "the Hog," is one of the oldest bars in Indianapolis. The saloon was known as The Mahogany Bar from the end of Prohibition until roughly 1982, when it was purchased and the name was changed to May's Lounge before becoming the Dorman Street Saloon. Today, it offers a laid-back atmosphere with a jukebox and pool table, and books live music from local bands on select nights, so checking their schedule before visiting is worthwhile. Frequent live music performances and DJ sets keep things going late. Beyond the saloon, the Cottage Home Block Party draws thousands to the neighborhood park for live music, food, and vendors, with bands spread across two stages. The neighborhood is also known for its Reggae Party. For a neighborhood this size, the Saloon is the only permanent music venue, but the community events punch well above their weight.
