Mass Ave
A neighborhood in Indianapolis
Mass Ave, Indianapolis's Cultural Arts District, runs along Massachusetts Avenue through the heart of downtown and holds one of the city's densest concentrations of live-music options. The anchor is the Egyptian Room at Old National Centre, originally built in 1909 as the Murat Shrine Temple. The ornate 16,000-square-foot ballroom is decorated with hand-carved Egyptian murals, gold-painted columns, and impressive wood chandeliers, and accommodates up to 2,000 guests for concerts, corporate events, and private gatherings. Past artists include Paramore, The 1975, and Greta Van Fleet; the room is also a go-to spot for electronic music, having hosted Excision and ODESZA. Smaller and older still, the Basile Theatre at the Historic Athenaeum is an intimate room in the Mass Ave entertainment district suited to performing arts, comedy, and live podcast performances. With a seating capacity of just 100, it puts guests close to the performers. Rounding out the nightlife end, Dusk Lounge pairs coastal Mediterranean dining with live DJ sets upstairs and a speakeasy lounge below, where the city's DJ talent focuses on Deep House and Afro House. Easley Winery, Peace Water Winery, Parlor Public House, The Garage Food Hall, The Knotted Spoon Bar and Kitchen, Metro Nightclub & Restaurant, Almost Famous, and Union 50 fill out the strip with additional music options. The neighborhood as a whole is home to several performance venues where visitors can catch live music, theater productions, and dance performances.
