Shawnee
The Aztec Shawnee Theater, originally built in 1927 and restored, reopened in December 2020 as the city's anchor live-music room. A converted movie theater, it has been renovated with a large stage and books a wide variety of music genres most weekends, with VIP table and theater-style seating options. Classic rock tribute bands are a regular feature, and the family-owned room draws repeat crowds for its intimate atmosphere and full bar. The Theatre in the Park draws acts ranging from country-rock to rock bands on its outdoor stage. Barley's Kitchen + Tap books live local musicians every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, backed by 99 taps and one of the largest draft beer selections in Kansas. The KC Live 411 calendar also lists Barley's as a regular stop for bands spanning blues, country, R&B, and rock covers. Servaes Brewing Company, Transport Brewery, Wild Child Libations, and B&B Live round out the lineup, adding brewery and bar-based music options across the city. Shawnee's scene leans toward cover bands, tribute acts, and local originals spread across neighborhood spots rather than a single concentrated district.
