Worlds of Fun

The Worlds of Fun area sits about ten minutes northeast of downtown Kansas City along I-435, anchored by Kansas City's hometown amusement park, which offers 235 acres of family rides, thrill rides, roller coasters, live shows, and attractions. Live music here comes in two distinct flavors. Inside the park, the Tivoli Music Hall has a history going back to the park's opening, when it debuted not as a music hall but as Tivoli Playhouse, with an expansive theatrical rigging system. Over the years it became synonymous with two major yearly events: its Band and Choir Festival, which premiered in spring 1974 and continues to this day, and a summer show series running from late spring through Labor Day. Larger choral groups can reserve timeslots there for the Festival of Music. A short distance away, the Star Pavilion is located within the Ameristar Casino Hotel. It has hosted acts ranging from B.B. King, The Beach Boys, and Aretha Franklin to contemporary performers like The Struts and Tyler Hubbard, with seating for over 1,300 guests. The venue programs rock, blues, and country, and also hosts comedy performers.
