Market Square
Market Square has been a cultural center long known for live music, and the streets around the square carry that tradition into its indoor venues. The City runs a live music series called Concerts on the Square, and the Knoxville Jazz Orchestra holds Jazz on the Square on the outdoor stage on Tuesday evenings through the warmer months. Preservation Pub, established in 2002, was a driving force in Market Square's revitalization and remains one of its anchor music spots. Located at 28 Market Square with a capacity of 400, it books over 200 artists per month, including bands, singer-songwriters, and comedians, with the first-floor Smokeasy running live music nightly. The building spans multiple floors, including a rooftop Moonshine Roof Garden. Scruffy City Hall, at 32 Market Square, bills itself as Knoxville's "Cathedral of Entertainment and Libations" across three floors, with soaring ceilings, stained glass, and a main hall suited for intimate live performances. It is the square's only venue with a public balcony overlooking Market Square and books live music up to seven nights a week. The two venues are affiliated and connected.
