South Louisville

Iroquois Amphitheater was constructed in the spring of 1938 through federal Works Progress Administration labor and has long been a source of pride for South Louisville. It is the official amphitheater for the Commonwealth of Kentucky and seats 2,348 in a state-of-the-art, handicapped-accessible setting within Iroquois Park. Designed to harmonize with the natural surroundings of Frederick Law Olmsted's park system, the amphitheater initially served as a hub for musical theater and civic events. Reopened in 2003, the updated venue features state-of-the-art sound and lighting systems and expanded seating. Today it draws nationally touring acts as well as community productions. Past performers have included My Morning Jacket and Bela Fleck. Recent bookings span a wide range, from Blues Traveler and Gin Blossoms to the Pixies. The theater's design allows for good acoustics, while the surrounding park's rolling hills and mature trees give shows an intimate, open-air feel.
