Germantown
Germantown's live-music identity is built almost entirely around GPAC, the Germantown Performing Arts Center on Exeter Road, and its outdoor companion, The Grove. Together they give this suburban city a program that ranges from ticketed touring acts to free Thursday-night lawn concerts. GPAC opened in 1994 and is owned by the City of Germantown. Its Highland Capital Performance Hall books across a wide range of genres, with past and upcoming artists including North Mississippi Allstars, Ricky Skaggs, Wycliffe Gordon, Don Was, Robert Earl Keen, Mavis Staples, and Terence Blanchard. The Iris Orchestra holds its classical series here, and the venue runs a recurring jazz series called "Jazz in the Box." The Grove is designed as an outdoor reflection of GPAC's indoor space, set on a lush, shady lawn called the TruGreen Lawn. The park-like setting holds roughly 900 guests for both ticketed and free events. Its "Concerts in The Grove" series brings local musicians to the Highland Capital Stage on select Thursday evenings, with food trucks and a full bar on site. A standout technical feature: The Grove can simulcast indoor performances onto a giant screen, placing GPAC among only three performing arts centers nationally with that capability, alongside Miami's New World Center and the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C.
